Osogbo Cult Violence: Police Move Tactical Squads to Oke-Baale, Begin Fresh Operations
Two killed in Owo-Eba clash, another shot in Arowomole
The Osun State Police Command has ordered the deployment of tactical teams to Oke-Baale, Osogbo, following renewed suspected cult-related violence that claimed two lives and left another person receiving medical attention.
The move followed separate incidents reported in the Owo-Eba and Arowomole areas of Osogbo, with the police commissioner directing security operatives to intensify surveillance, patrols and intelligence-driven operations to prevent further attacks.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement dated October 4, 2026, saying the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, had directed tactical teams to remain in the area until peace was restored.
According to the statement, the first incident occurred on October 2 around Owo-Eba, where suspected cultists engaged in a clash that resulted in the deaths of two men identified as Adebayo Taoreed, alias “Small Rugged,” and Oluwaseyi Daniel, alias “OSHA.”
The police said several other persons sustained gunshot injuries during the clash, although the statement did not provide further details about the injured victims.
In a related development, suspected cultists reportedly invaded Arowomole on October 4 and shot Rasak Wahab, popularly known as “Ojo Iku.” He was rushed to a hospital, where he was said to be responding to treatment.
Reacting to the incidents, Zungura described the development as disturbing and directed tactical operatives to intensify efforts to track down suspected perpetrators and dismantle criminal networks linked to the violence.
“The tactical teams have been charged to conduct intelligence-led raids and operations professionally and within the ambit of the law,” the police said, adding that identified criminal hideouts and locations associated with cult activities would be targeted.
The Command further disclosed that the cases had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders were also directed to sustain patrols and strengthen security in vulnerable locations across the metropolis.
The police warned individuals involved in cult-related violence, including alleged sponsors and sympathisers, that they would face arrest and prosecution if found culpable.
“The Command wishes to reassure residents of Osogbo and the entire Osun State that the Police are fully in control of the security situation,” the statement said, urging residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities.
The Command called on parents, community leaders and members of the public to assist security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious movements, cult gatherings and other activities capable of threatening public peace.
It also cautioned residents against circulating unverified information that could heighten tension, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
