Cocoa Farmer Found Dead On Farm In Ondo, Police Begin Investigation

A 52-year-old cocoa farmer, Ajibade Kehinde, has been found dead on his farm at Alani Camp, near Supare, in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Kehinde was reportedly on his way to the farm on Thursday, September 3, 2026, but did not return home, prompting his family members to raise the alarm and commence a search for him.

His lifeless body was subsequently discovered along a farm road in the area, leaving residents and his family members worried over the circumstances surrounding his death.

A source familiar with the incident said the farmer might have been attacked by suspected thieves operating in the area, although the actual cause of his death had yet to be established.

The source said some farm produce were found at the scene, raising the possibility that the suspected attackers may have fled without taking away the produce.

Following the discovery of the body, police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer visited the scene and evacuated the deceased to Iwaro General Hospital.

A medical doctor at the hospital reportedly confirmed Kehinde dead, after which his remains were deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation.

The police have commenced an investigation, including efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the farmer’s death and determine whether the incident was connected to an attempted theft.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the command was investigating the circumstances that led to the farmer’s death.

Jimoh assured residents that the police would intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible if foul play was established.

He further assured members of the public that the command would take all necessary steps to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the law.
