Trump To Brief World As US Confirms Venezuelan President Maduro In Custody
United States President Donald Trump is expected to hold a press conference shortly to address the world following reports of a US-led military operation in Venezuela.
Trump had claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife are currently aboard a US warship, which is heading toward New York.
According to him, the pair were taken into custody during an overnight operation after Maduro, who had a $50 million US bounty on his head, reportedly refused calls to surrender.
Venezuela’s Defence Minister has condemned the action, accusing the United States of striking both military and civilian facilities, and insisting that the country will resist any foreign intervention.
Meanwhile, the US Attorney General Pam Bondi has confirmed that Maduro is expected to be indicted in the District of New York on multiple charges, including drug trafficking and terrorism-related offences.
Trump is expected to provide further details on the operation, its objectives and next steps during the anticipated press conference, as international concern grows over the implications for regional and global security.
