Osun Killings: APC Urges Adeleke, Police To Strengthen Security
…Expresses Concern Over Rising Violence In Osogbo, Other Parts Of State
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern over the reported spate of killings in Osogbo, the state capital, and other parts of the state, urging the state government and security agencies to intensify efforts to protect lives and property.
The party said the recurring violent incidents had heightened concerns about public safety, calling on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration to take urgent steps to address the security challenges confronting residents.
The APC’s position was contained in a statement issued on Saturday, October 3, 2026, and signed by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi.
The party said expectations that the conclusion of the August 15 governorship election, which was won by Adeleke according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), would usher in an end to the reported killings had not been met.
It lamented that the recurring incidents were creating fear among residents and could affect the perception of Osun State among visitors and people from other parts of the country.
The APC cited the reported killing of two persons in the Owo-Eba area, near Ilesa Garage, Osogbo, on Friday, October 2, describing the incident as disturbing.
According to the statement, the victims were identified as Small Rugged and Seyi Osha. The party alleged that the victims were attacked by unidentified hoodlums who reportedly used firearms, machetes, knives and cudgels.
It further identified Mascot, said to be a personal assistant to Small Rugged, Spirit and Agba Kali, a passer-by, among those reportedly wounded in the incident.
The party expressed sympathy with residents over the security situation, alleging that criminal elements had continued to perpetrate violence and undermine public safety.
It said the situation required urgent attention from the state government and security agencies, adding that the protection of lives and property remained a fundamental responsibility of government.
The APC urged Adeleke to intensify efforts to address insecurity and prevent further loss of lives, warning that recurring violent incidents could damage the image of the state and erode public confidence in security arrangements.
The party also called on the police and other security agencies to strengthen their operations, improve crime prevention and ensure that those responsible for violent attacks were identified and brought to justice.
It maintained that no justification could be offered for the unlawful killing of citizens, stressing that allegations of criminal conduct should be investigated and handled through established legal and judicial processes.
The APC added that the government and security agencies should not relent in their responsibility to safeguard residents, insisting that sustained efforts were necessary to restore public confidence and prevent further attacks.
As of the time of the statement, the allegations and casualty details cited by the APC had not been independently verified in the statement. The police account of the incident was also not included.
