Governor Adeleke Applauds NULGE’s Decision To Resume Work
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has commended the Osun State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for its decision to resume duties on January 5, describing the move as patriotic and people-oriented.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke described the planned resumption as a positive development for grassroots governance, noting that it reflects the union’s sensitivity to the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
The governor stated that local governance remains the most direct means of reaching residents across the state, adding that the decision by labour leaders demonstrated confidence in responsible leadership.
He also commended the Nigeria Police for enforcing law and order at the various council secretariats across the state.
According to Adeleke, the Inspector General of Police, the Assistant Inspector General of Police for Zone 11, and the Osun State Commissioner of Police have shown commitment by providing security cover for the lawful resumption of activities at the council secretariats.
He said the prompt action of the police had prevented anarchy and violence allegedly being plotted by some elements, noting that the security agencies acted responsibly to maintain peace.
Adeleke reiterated that his administration is not opposed to local government autonomy, describing the presidential decision on the matter as well-intentioned and aimed at devolving governance to the grassroots.
However, he stressed that the rule of law and due process must be upheld, insisting that constitutional provisions and existing laws governing the local government system must be fully complied with in financial, administrative, and other matters.
