Fadojoe Declares 2027 Presidential Ambition, Launches “Rescue Nigeria” Movement, Calls for generational shift
By Our Reporter
A former presidential aspirant and leader of the Rescue Movement for New Nigeria, Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, popularly known as Fadojoe, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, vowing to lead what he described as a people-driven mission to “rescue Nigeria from collapse.”
Fadojoe made the declaration in a strongly worded address titled “A Call to Rescue Nigeria (2027)”, in which he positioned himself as a non-elite candidate driven by the daily struggles of ordinary Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
“I stand before you not as a member of the political elite, but as a son of the soil, a Nigerian who feels your pain, lives your reality, and refuses to accept suffering as our destiny,” he said. “I am not here as a Yoruba man, an Igbo man, or a Hausa man, but as a Nigerian. Hunger has no tribe, and suffering has no religion.”
Criticism of Current Policies
The presidential hopeful delivered a scathing critique of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, blaming recent economic reforms for worsening poverty across the country. He cited the removal of fuel subsidy without adequate safety nets and the unification and devaluation of the naira as policies that, according to him, “pushed Nigerians to the brink.” “Overnight, fuel prices skyrocketed, transportation costs multiplied, food prices became unbearable, rent increased, and electricity tariffs rose,” Fadojoe said.
“Today, millions of Nigerians must choose between feeding their families and transporting themselves to work – if they still have jobs.”
He further alleged that despite the removal of fuel subsidy, the current administration had borrowed more than any government in Nigeria’s 64-year history, while the living conditions of citizens continued to deteriorate.
Insecurity and Governance Failure
Fadojoe also decried the worsening state of insecurity, describing Nigeria as a country where citizens now “travel with fear in their hearts.”
“Kidnapping has become an industry. Bandits and terrorists move freely. Farmers cannot go to their farms. Children are abducted from schools,” he said, adding that many Nigerians in the diaspora are now afraid to return home, even for visits.
He condemned the payment of ransom to kidnappers and terrorists, arguing that it had turned Nigeria into “a nation where crime pays and citizens suffer.”
“A government that cannot protect lives has failed in its most basic duty,” he stated, citing a remark attributed to late military ruler General Sani Abacha that prolonged terrorism suggests insider complicity.
Education, Health, and Youth Crisis
On education and employment, Fadojoe lamented the collapse of opportunities for young Nigerians, saying degrees no longer guarantee dignity or jobs.
“Youth unemployment has reached historic and embarrassing levels. A nation that abandons its youth is signing its own death warrant,” he warned.
He also criticized the state of healthcare in the country, describing medical emergencies as “death sentences” for many Nigerians due to poorly equipped hospitals and underpaid doctors.
“Those who should fix the system travel abroad for medical treatment, including the President himself,” he said. “How can a government that refuses to trust its own hospitals expect citizens to survive in them?”
Position on 2023 Election and Political Coalitions
Reflecting on the 2023 general election, Fadojoe revealed that he was a qualified aspirant under the Labour Party and had purchased nomination forms before stepping down for Mr. Peter Obi during the party’s presidential primary in Asaba.
“I stepped down without collecting a dime because of my burning desire to see Nigeria rescued,” he said. “I stood beside him and lifted up his hands before the delegates.”
However, he expressed disappointment over Obi’s current political alignment, accusing him of joining a coalition of “the same politicians who brought Nigeria to its knees.” “Nigerians must ask: can arsonists become firefighters? Can the destroyers of our nation now become the builders?” he queried, dismissing recent political coalitions as a rebranding of old power blocs.
“The first was APC; now it is ADC. The only difference is that the ‘P’ at the centre changed to ‘D’.”
A Call for Generational Shift
Presenting himself as an agent of generational change, Fadojoe said Nigeria urgently needs new leadership untainted by past failures.
“The same leaders who told us we are the leaders of tomorrow are still clinging to power in their old age,” he said. “It is time for the Nigerian people to choose a new path.”
He likened himself to the biblical Joseph, declaring his readiness to be used by God to lead Nigeria out of its current “famine.”
People-Powered Campaign
Formally declaring his ambition, Fadojoe said: “With humility and determination, I surrender myself to contest for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2027 elections.”
He emphasized that his campaign would not be funded by political godfathers, but by ordinary Nigerians.
“No individual can finance a presidential election alone – not without godfathers or stolen wealth,” he said. “This movement will be funded by the people, sustained by the people, and driven by the people.”
Calling on Nigerians at home and abroad, he urged citizens to organize, mobilize, vote, and defend their votes, describing the 2027 election as a defining moment.
“It will not be APC versus ADC. It will not be politicians versus politicians. It will be the people versus the political class,” Fadojoe declared.
He concluded by rallying Nigerians to reclaim the country peacefully and lawfully, saying, “This is our fight. This is our rescue. Let us rise together and reclaim our nation.”
