The Igbajo Achievers Lions Club, has called on Nigerians to give back to society, saying generosity remains a divine responsibility and a source of joy to both the giver and the receiver.
The call was made on Saturday during the club’s January mega humanitarian activity, where food items were donated to the Lord’s Heritage Orphanage Home in Ede, Osun State.
Speaking at the event, the club President, Lion Yinka Diamond Ishola described Lions International as a global service organisation founded on compassion, selfless service and commitment to humanity, stressing that every Lions Club activity is aimed at supporting the less privileged and vulnerable members of society.
According to him, every intervention carried out by the Lions Club is guided by the core values of service to humanity, stressing that giving back to society remains a moral and divine obligation.
“Everything we do in the Lions Club is about humanity. To serve humanity and the less privileged in society. That is why we are here today, to fulfil the core values of Lions International,” he said.
Lion Ishola urged Nigerians who have been blessed by God to extend support to those in need, noting that generosity brings joy and hope to beneficiaries.
“It is important for well-meaning Nigerians to give back out of what God has given them. When you give, people are happy. Just as Jesus Christ fed 5,000 people in the Bible, there is nobody you give to who will not be happy,” he added.
Items donated during the exercise included bags of rice and cartons of noodles.
In her remarks, the Visionary of the Lord’s Heritage Orphanage Home, Deaconess Temitope Isaac, expressed appreciation to the Igbajo Achievers Lions Club, describing the donation as timely and encouraging, especially after the festive season.
“We depend solely on donations, and this is our first gift for January. It is a sign of hope that more support is coming. We are sincerely grateful to the Igbajo Achievers Lions Club for remembering us,” she said.
Deaconess Isaac explained that the orphanage caters predominantly for physically challenged children who require constant care, medical attention and specialised education.
She noted that many of the children are on seizure and other routine medications, adding that the cost of healthcare, education and daily care remains a major challenge.
“We have children who cannot do anything by themselves and need attention all the time. We also run a school and ensure that the children receive education despite their conditions. The financial needs are enormous,” she explained.
She appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to support orphanages and stop the stigmatisation of children living with disabilities.
“If you have, please give. Whatever you do for these children is a seed. We want to be treated with love and taken as normal children,” she appealed.
