Flood: AbdulRazaq Visits Affected Kwara Communities, Donates N10m

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has donated N10 million to residents of five flood-hit communities in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area of the state, to support their immediate relief needs.

The governor made the donation during a visit to the affected communities on Wednesday to sympathise with residents over the recurring flooding that has disrupted life in the agrarian settlements.

The affected communities are Pututa, Tswako, Likpata, Godangi and Ekko, all located in Lafiagi Ward 4.

During the visit to Pututa, AbdulRazaq, who met with the community head, Alhaji Muhammed Manko Ibrahim, described the situation as unfortunate and assured residents that his administration would continue to explore measures to address the recurring disaster.

He identified the dredging of the River Niger as a possible long-term solution to the flooding and directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assess the damage and losses suffered by residents for appropriate government intervention.

The N10 million donation is intended to provide immediate assistance to affected households, particularly in meeting their needs for food, potable water and medical care.

The governor also expressed appreciation to the people of Kwara North, including residents of the Lafiagi Emirate, for their continued support for his administration.

As part of his visit, AbdulRazaq inspected ongoing development projects at the College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi, and the Lafiagi Stadium.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to upgrading the college to a Federal University of Education, saying efforts would be intensified towards achieving the objective.

The governor also disclosed that the state government would consider reopening the Gbugbu International Market, which was shut down earlier over security concerns.

He explained that the decision to zone the governorship ticket to Kwara North was intended to accelerate development in the region.

Speaking on behalf of the Emir of Lafiagi, the Somasun of Lafiagi, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, commended the governor for visiting the affected communities and acknowledged his administration’s development initiatives in the area.

Usman particularly appreciated the donation of a Coaster bus to the College of Education (Technical), Lafiagi, while appealing to the state government to reopen the Gbugbu International Market to revive commercial activities and improve economic opportunities for residents.
