Court Remands El-Rufai In ICPC Custody, Postpones Bail Hearing To April 14
A Federal High Court in Kaduna has adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, to April 14.
The presiding judge, Rilwanu Aikawa, fixed the new date on Wednesday after hearing arguments from both the defence and prosecution.
El-Rufai was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion of public property and money laundering.
The court subsequently ordered that the former governor remain in ICPC custody pending the hearing of his bail application on the adjourned date.
El-Rufai arrived at the court premises at about 9:00 a.m. in a black Hilux vehicle, accompanied by officials of the Department of State Services.
Speaking to journalists after the proceedings, his counsel, Ubong Akpan (SAN), confirmed the adjournment, noting that the lead defence counsel would address the media later.
