Baba Bisi Akande, My First Political Mentor and the Benchmark I Aspire To Surpass- Adeniyi
Honourable Ismail Adeniyi has identified mentorship, integrity, and service as the defining pillars of his political journey, citing Chief Bisi Akande as his foremost influence and moral compass.
Growing up in Ila Orangun and across Osun State, Chief Akande’s name symbolized discipline, principle, and selfless leadership. Long before politics became a personal pursuit, Hon. Adeniyi said he learned the value of character through the consistent respect and trust associated with his mentor.
Describing Chief Akande as his “political father,” Hon. Adeniyi explained that the relationship is rooted not in blood ties, but in shared values and ideological alignment. According to him, Chief Akande represents the finest ideals of the Awoist school of politics, where public office is a call to service, accountability, and people-centered governance.
Reflecting on his mentor’s legacy, Hon. Adeniyi noted that true leadership is measured by impact, not noise, and by principles, not populism. He said these lessons continue to shape his approach to public service and leadership preparation.
As he serves and prepares for greater responsibility, Hon. Adeniyi emphasized that Osun State needs leaders committed to building, protecting, and advancing legacies—not merely occupying positions. He reaffirmed his commitment to progressive values, including fairness, inclusiveness, development, and service above self.
“I will never betray the trust of the people,” he stated. “I remain committed to representing their voice faithfully and serving with all my strength.”
Hon. Ismail Adeniyi concluded by expressing confidence that the enduring values of integrity and accountability will continue to guide his service, just as they defined the leadership of his mentor.
