Osun NULGE Announces Jan 5 Resumption, Demands Security At Councils
The Osun State chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has announced January 5, 2026, as the date for the resumption of work by its members at local government secretariats across the state.
The announcement was made in a letter requesting security protection from all security agencies, issued on Monday in Osogbo after a series of council meetings on guarantees for the safe resumption of work at the grassroots.
In a statement signed by the NULGE president in the state, Comrade Dr Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, the union said its members were earlier directed to withdraw services and embark on a sit-at-home action due to a volatile security situation triggered by a leadership tussle and political friction between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ogungbangbe called on security agencies to deploy adequate personnel to all council secretariats, prevent further illegal occupation, maintain neutrality, and uphold the rule of law.
He warned that any breakdown of law and order resulting from failure to provide security would be attributed to the agencies concerned.
According to the statement, “In view of our scheduled resumption on 5th January, 2026, we respectfully request the security agencies to deploy adequate security to the 30 local government councils, area offices and LCDA secretariats to prevent intimidation, harassment, or disruption of lawful duties; prevent any further illegal occupation by unauthorised persons; and ensure neutrality while protecting public servants from self-help tactics.”
“Should there be any breakdown of law and order due to a failure to provide security, this correspondence shall be relied upon as evidence that the union duly alerted the security agencies to the impending danger,” the statement added.
It would be recalled that NULGE directed its members to embark on a sit-at-home action in February 2025 following the leadership tussle at local government secretariats across the state.
