Mystery Death Near Lagos Hospital: Woman Found Electrocuted
A yet-to-be-identified middle-aged woman was tragically electrocuted on Wednesday afternoon inside a transformer platform situated beside the perimeter wall of Lagos Island General Hospital along Broad Street.
Although full details surrounding the incident remain unclear, eyewitnesses told PM NEWS that the woman had reportedly entered the fenced transformer enclosure to urinate when she stepped on a live cable and was instantly electrocuted.
When reporters arrived at the scene around 2:30 p.m., a large crowd had gathered, visibly shaken by the event. Despite efforts to identify her, no one present could provide her name or residential address.
Some residents claimed the victim had arrived in the area a few weeks ago, often seen with a bag and sleeping on the roadside adjacent to the hospital.
Others reported that the woman had told locals she had been recently evicted by her landlord and was searching for alternative accommodation.
Emergency personnel from the Lagos Island General Hospital later arrived with an ambulance to remove the corpse, which was taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement, but the tragic incident has reignited concerns about public safety around power infrastructure and the vulnerability of homeless individuals in urban centres.
