ALGON accuses Osun NULGE president of plotting to disrupt peace in LGAs

The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State chapter, has alerted security agencies to hold the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state, Comrade Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, responsible for any breakdown of law and order across the 30 local government areas and the Ife-East Area Office, Modakeke.

‎The warning was contained in a statement by the state ALGON chairman, Hon. Idowu Abiodun, who said the alert followed actions by the Ogungbangbe-led executive capable of undermining the peace enjoyed at the grassroots since the reinstatement of council chairmen and councillors.

‎Abiodun said the sit-at-home action embarked upon by local government workers for about 10 months suggested partisanship and alleged financial inducement by the NULGE leadership aimed at frustrating local government administration in the state.

‎Reacting to the recent resumption announcement by the NULGE president, Abiodun described it as a guise to cause chaos and jeopardise the atmosphere of peace built by the council chairmen since their reinstatement by the Court of Appeal.

‎He cautioned Ogungbangbe against any illegality capable of endangering workers, insisting that the APC-elected chairmen and councillors remain the constitutionally recognised occupants of the councils.

‎ALGON said it had alerted security agencies to what it described as an attempt to “oust” council officials under the guise of seeking protection, warning that the NULGE president would be held accountable for any breach of peace.

‎In the statement, Abiodun accused Ogungbangbe of unchecked partisanship and warned that he had no legal authority to determine who should occupy the councils or decide the tenure of elected officials, stressing that such actions amounted to illegality.

‎He urged genuine workers to resume duties without fear, assuring them of a peaceful working environment, while recalling that NULGE workers were directed to withdraw their services from local government secretariats in February following the resumption of office by the APC-reinstated council officers.
