Justice Liman Rejects Oral Application For Omoyele Sowore's Bail

Justice M.S. Liman of the Federal High Court in Abuja has requested that detained human rights activist Omoyele Sowore submit a formal application for bail.

The court made this announcement after Sowore’s lawyer, Abubakar Marshall, presented an oral application on Wednesday.

Marshall contended that the cybercrime charges filed against Sowore by Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, are eligible for bail.

But Justice Liman insisted that a formal application should be made to the court.

Meanwhile, the prosecution counsel, M.U. Jonathan agreed with Sowore’s lawyers, Marshall and Deji Adeyanju to return to the court by 3:00 pm today (Wednesday) for the bail application following the request by the court that a formal bail application be made.

The judge therefore stood the case down till 3:00 pm for the hearing of the bail application.

Sowore earlier on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to the cybercrime charges filed against him by Egbetokun.

Sowore, who is standing trial before Justice Liman for calling Egbetokun an ‘Illegal IGP’ on social media, entered the dock at about 10:00 am.

The activist at the end of each count told the court that he was not guilty.
