Independence Day: FG Declares Wednesday Public Holiday
The federal government has declared Wednesday, October 1, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary.
The announcement was made by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior, on behalf of the federal government on Monday.
In a statement signed by Magdalene Ajani, permanent secretary in the ministry, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians on the “historic milestone”.
He urged citizens to continue upholding patriotism, unity, and resilience, which he said have kept the nation together since its independence in 1960.
The minister also called on Nigerians to keep faith in President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, which he said is focused on national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity.
Tunji-Ojo expressed optimism that with collective effort, Nigeria would continue to advance in peace, progress, and development.
He wished the citizens a happy and memorable Independence Day celebration.
