Ifon/Ilobu/Erin Crisis: Senator Omoworare calls for Calm, Peaceful Resolution

-Urges Govt to be more proactive, Seek Intellectual Help

Senator Babajide Omoworare has sued for peace between the warring Ilobu, Ifon and Erin-Osun communities.
According to Omoworare, the communal clash which resulted into the Killings and destruction of properties could have been averted, if the state government had promptly acted.
He urged the state government to take decisive steps to explore and apply effective conflict resolution mechanisms, by facilitating collaboration, mediation and conciliation that can ensure consensus and a long-lasting, tranquil coexistence among the affected communities.
“I am deeply saddened by the continued crisis in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin, which has escalated beyond what should have been a resolvable conflict.
“This unfortunate situation, which has led to destruction and loss, could have been prevented if the state government had promptly deployed appropriate state apparatuses and avail itself professional and intellectual expertise, when the crisis was still at the stage of conflict.
“The failure to engage proactive conflict resolution mechanisms at the right time has led us to this regrettable onslaught. Careful navigation of conflict landmines would have obviated the conflagration and carnage that ensued.
“I plead with all parties involved to sheath their swords and embrace peace. Violence has never been the answer, and further bloodshed will only deepen the wounds that must now be healed.
“Our people deserve lasting peace, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that peace is not just a temporary relief but a permanent reality in Irepodun and Orolu Local Government Areas of Osun State.
“The state government must take decisive steps to explore and apply effective conflict resolution mechanisms, by facilitating collaboration, mediation, conciliation etc. that can ensure consensus and a long-lasting, tranquil coexistence among the affected communities. If expertise is lacking in this regard, I urge the government to seek knowledge from those who understand how to utilise sustainable peace strategies.
“Let us not allow this crisis to define our communities when it can be resolved with wisdom, dialogue, and structured engagement.
“This is a time of reflection and reconciliation, especially as the curfew is being relaxed and in the spirit of the concluding Ramadan. Let us seize this opportunity to rebuild trust, foster unity, and restore harmony in our dear state.
“I commiserate with Ifon, Ilobu and Erin communities for the loss of lives, I stand in solidarity with all those affected, and I remain committed to advocating for a peaceful resolution to this crisis. May God grant us the wisdom and patience to build a more united, peaceful, tranquil and prosperous Osun State, Amen”
