President Bola Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on members of the Super Falcons, following their historic triumph at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The accolade was announced during a reception at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.
In addition to the national honour, President Tinubu awarded the team a cash reward of $100,000, with $50,000 (in naira equivalent) allocated to the technical crew. He also confirmed that each player will receive a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate.
Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, pledged ₦10 million each for the players and technical staff on behalf of the governors, in recognition of their remarkable achievement.
“This victory goes beyond football. It is a message to our girls and young women that with determination, anything is possible,” President Tinubu said. He commended the team’s resilience, discipline, and dedication, describing their performance as a source of national pride and inspiration.
He emphasized the broader significance of the win, stating it showcased the strength and potential of Nigerian women in sports on the global stage. Tinubu also assured continued support and investment in sports development under his administration.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons clinched their record-extending 10th WAFCON title after a dramatic 3–2 comeback win against Morocco in Rabat. Their performance stirred nation-wide celebrations and renewed optimism about women’s football in Africa.
In closing remarks, the President encouraged the players to remain committed to excellence and urged Nigerians to celebrate the team as ambassadors of the nation.
