Police in Kano have uncovered plot by unpatriotic elements to instigate violent protests designed to disrupt socio- political and economic activities in Kano state.

Though the reason for the planned violent procession is not clear as at the time of filing this report, our Correspondent reports that security has been beefed up in the ancient commercial city.

Visible presence of security operatives are witnessed at strategic locations across the state metropolis.

Already, 17 leaders of different gangs of thugs have been arrested by the police.

Police urged parents and guardians to warn their wards against getting involved in unlawful gatherings.

A Statement by the Kano state Police Command spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the development.

Kiyawa said adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent breakdown of law and order in the state.

According to Kiyawa: “The Kano State Police Command wishes to inform the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order in the State.

” Following credible intelligence reports of a planned violent protest by some individuals, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel and assets to strategic locations within Kano Metropolis to prevent the protest and ensure public safety.

” As a result of these proactive measures, 17 suspected thugs have been arrested, and investigation is ongoing. The Command is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this planned violence are brought to justice.

“The Command wishes to warn all individuals and groups against engaging in any form of unlawful gathering, procession, or violence. Such actions will be met with swift and decisive response from the security agencies.

“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the security agencies. The Command appreciates the cooperation and support of the good people of Kano State in our efforts to maintain peace and order.”
