Osun Govt., NILDS Organizes Quiz Competition for Secondary School Students

Osun State Government and the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies(NILDS) have organised a National Quiz competition for Secondary school pupils in Osun State.

The competition is aimed at acquainting students at secondary schools level with the act of law making and governance which will encourage and nurture them to stardom for the benefit of Osun State and Nigeria.

The quiz competition held in Osogbo saw six schools drawn from different zones across the State who jostled for a chance to represent Osun State at the south west zonal level which will be held in Akure, Ondo State.

Twelve students from different schools across the six Educational zones in Osun State participated in the quiz competition which tested their knowledge on the political landscape in Nigeria and most especially the Legislative arm of government.

At the end of the keenly contested competition, Ajayi Mercy and Arowolo Blessing from Vickayor Private School, Ile-Ife emerged tops and got the ticket to go and represent the State at the zonal level which will come up in Akure where the state to represent the zone at the national finals will emerge.

Declaring the competition open, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education Mr. Murtala Jimoh represented by the Executive Secretary/ZIE, Osogbo zone, Mrs. Adebona Adeoye, said a quiz competition of this kind affords students the opportunity to be equipped with administrative life knowledge that will be highly relevant in daily governance and also grooming young minds to take up the mantle of leadership to improve their lives.

He further appreciated all education stakeholders involved in ensuring that these great minds are selected and brought together for the success of the competition

In his welcome address, Director General of NILDS Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju who was represented by NILDS coordinator to Osun State, Mrs. Shiru Bukola Hauwa explained that the objective of the competition is to provide deepened knowledge of Legislative and Democratic governance at the level of secondary school students as well as inspire young Nigerians to cultivate the interest to participate in Legislative governance.

Prof. Olarewaju added that the competition will stimulate the interest of the young students in politics and make them more proactive in matters relating to the legislature and Democracy.

Earlier in his address, the State representative of NILDS , Mr. Vincent Akinola appreciated the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies for demonstrating unwavering commitment to naturing, Inform and engage responsible citizens through initiatives like this quiz competition.

He further appreciated NILDS for their tireless efforts In making the competition a reality and the parent and teachers for nurturing and supporting the young minds.
