My Wife Cautioned Me Against Abusing Buhari After His Death — Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has disclosed that his wife, Feyisetan, advised him against criticising the late President Muhammadu Buhari after his death.

Buhari died on July 13 in London at the age of 82 and was buried on July 15 at his Daura residence in Katsina State.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Fayose said he initially wanted to criticise the former president but refrained due to his wife’s counsel.

“The people in Nigeria only praise the dead. When Buhari died, I wanted to come out and abuse him [but] my wife called me not to say so,” Fayose said.

“Would you say Buhari performed? I am not among those praising the dead. Don’t honour me when I die. When I die, I’m gone.

“When Buhari was in government, we all knew what this country was. So, nobody should come and tell me that Tinubu is not doing well. He is accessible. Was the former president accessible?

“A lot of things are happening in those days, but do you still find them in the system? He is not a perfect man but we are not where we were.

“Nigeria is a sick country; it will take heaven to pull it out at once. What miracle can anybody do in two years? The situation is critical, wide and deep. Tinubu inherited a very bad economy.”

Fayose, a longtime critic of Buhari, had in 2015 questioned the late president’s health and described him as a “grandpa” unfit to lead the country. In 2017, he also alleged that Buhari was on life support while receiving treatment in the UK and, in 2018, urged him not to seek re-election.
