Leadership Should Be Service To Humanity, Newly Installed Osun New Era Lions Club President, Oyesiji Says
In a call that aligns with growing national conversations on community-driven development, the newly installed President of the Osun New Era Lions Club, Lion Oyewale Oyesiji, says leadership in Nigeria must be rooted in service, collaboration, and impact.
Speaking yesterday , during his inauguration at the SOB Event Centre in Osogbo, Oyesiji declared that the Club’s new service year would prioritise humanitarian projects that directly address community needs, particularly in healthcare, empowerment, and youth development.
“Leadership is a collective journey rooted in teamwork and shared values,” he said, pledging to expand the Club’s humanitarian reach through strengthened service projects, strategic partnerships, and leadership development. According to him, “Leadership is never a solo effort. My vision is to deepen collaboration that will uplift communities.”
The installation ceremony, which also featured the induction of new officers and a fundraising drive, marked the Club’s 12th presidential transition, a milestone that signals continuity in one of the state’s most active volunteer service organisations.
Guest speaker, Professor Mayowa Oyediran, underscored the national importance of digital literacy in advancing community empowerment. Delivering a lecture titled “Digital Literacy for All: A Key in Unlocking Community Connections,” he urged service organisations to embrace technology as a tool for inclusion, job creation, and improved service delivery.
“Digital literacy is not for Gen-Z alone; it is for everyone.
It is about dignity, opportunity, and giving our communities the power to dream bigger,” he said, encouraging the Lions to integrate digital competence into leadership, service, youth development, and healthcare initiatives.
District Governor, Lions District 404B2, Lion Oluwakemi Eribake, praised the Osun New Era Lions Club for what she described as a consistent commitment to humanitarian duty. She said the event’s “three-in-one” programme, installation, induction, and fundraising, demonstrated the Club’s readiness for a more impactful service year.
“We serve humanity, and Osun New Era Lions Club is today fulfilling one of its core obligations,” she said, urging new officers to embrace kindness as a defining principle of Lionism.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the fundraising initiative for the Club’s flagship project, upgrading a hospital in Modakeke, the home community of the new president. The Club said the project reflects its mission to improve healthcare access and strengthen community wellbeing.
First Vice District Governor, Oluomo Sunday Akere, also congratulated the Club, noting that new leadership offers renewed opportunity for members to deepen their contributions to humanity.
“We join to serve, and every new leadership cycle is a new chance to make a meaningful impact,” he said.
However, awards were presented to the deserving members of the club.
