*Jailbreak in Kogi: Inmates Escape from Correctional Center*
A recent jailbreak at the Federal Correctional Center in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, has raised concerns about the security of Nigeria’s correctional facilities.
Twelve inmates escaped from the center on Monday, with one inmate already re-arrested and efforts underway to capture the remaining fugitives.
Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, described the incident as “unfortunate” but assured residents that the government is taking immediate steps to prevent future occurrences.
Fanwo noted that the inmates allegedly escaped through the tower without causing structural damage, which raises serious concerns about potential internal collaborators or sabotage.
Governor Usman Ododo has directed security agencies to strengthen measures to prevent further security breaches at correctional facilities in the state.
The public has been urged to report any suspicious individuals in their communities, with warnings that anyone found harboring an escaped inmate will face legal action.
The Kogi State government has assured residents that there is no cause for panic and that security agencies are in full control of the situation.
However, the incident highlights the need for improved security measures and investigations into potential internal sabotage or collusion.
