Osun APC Criticises Adeleke Over Foreign Trip Amid Security Concerns

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke over what it described as persistent governance lapses and missteps in his administration.

In a statement on Saturday, the APC state chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, said the governor’s leadership since his inauguration in November 2022 has continued to raise doubts about his preparedness and capacity to govern a complex state like Osun effectively.

The party expressed concern over Governor Adeleke’s recent trip to Texas, United States, to attend a birthday event, noting that the visit came at a time when the state is grappling with heightened security challenges. It added that the situation is particularly worrying given Osun’s shared border with Kwara State, which has recently experienced increased banditry and terrorist activity.

According to the APC, while other state governors are implementing measures to curb the spread of insecurity, Governor Adeleke opted to travel abroad for a relative’s celebration.

The party further alleged that the governor has travelled to the United States at least six times this year using state resources, even as courts in Osun remain largely inactive. It maintained that the prolonged judicial stagnation has delayed justice for the state’s nearly five million residents.

“Our people deserve a government that prioritises their welfare and security,” the statement read in part.

The APC urged residents to remain patient, assuring them that the forthcoming governorship election would provide an opportunity to elect an administration committed to responsible and people-centred governance.
