7 Inmates Escape From Ilesa Prisons Custody Following Wall Collapse
No fewer than Seven inmates in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) at the Ilesa Medium Security Custodial Centre have reportedly escaped following damage caused by heavy rainfall.
Reports indicate that the escape occurred after the facility’s aging perimeter wall collapsed, creating an opportunity for the inmates to flee.
The Deputy Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Umar Abubakar, confirmed that the agency has launched a manhunt following the breach in security at the Ilesa facility in Osun State.
“The force majeure, which occurred at about 0200 hours on Tuesday, 20th May 2025, led to the escape of seven (7) inmates,” Abubakar stated.
In response to the incident, the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has ordered an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
According to Abubakar, the service is collaborating with other security agencies and local community leaders to track down and recapture the escapees.
He also appealed to the public for cooperation and urged anyone with useful information to assist in the effort.
“Anyone with information should please contact the nearest security agency or reach out to the NCoS Response Desk via the following numbers: 07087086005, 09060004598, 08075050006,” he said.
