Terrorists Abduct Four Farmers In Fresh Kwara Attack
Terrorists have reportedly abducted four rice farmers in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, in a fresh assault barely 24 hours after gunmen invaded a church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA.
Sources told SaharaReporters that the farmers were seized on Wednesday evening while working on their rice fields at the peak of the harvest season.
A community source said the attackers arrived suddenly and surrounded the victims as they were gathering their harvested rice.
“It has been confirmed that bandits struck again at Bokungi under the Lafiagi Emirate. Four people were abducted. Information is still emerging,” the source said.
Residents said the gunmen operated for several minutes without resistance, forcing the farmers into the nearby bush before whisking them away to an unknown destination.
Community members noted that worsening insecurity in Edu LGA has forced several farming settlements to become deserted, as farmers fear attacks during the harvest period when they are most exposed.
The Kwara State Police Command had yet to release an official statement as at the time of filing this report.
This latest attack comes after terrorists stormed a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku on Tuesday evening, killing three worshippers and abducting several others, including the pastor.
Sources said the attackers invaded the church during a meeting and immediately opened fire, sending worshippers running for safety.
Three members were shot dead on the spot before the invaders seized an unspecified number of congregants.
“The gunmen came in suddenly and started shooting. Three people were killed instantly,” one source said.
“They gathered others at gunpoint and marched them into the bush. We still don’t know the exact number taken.”
The attackers reportedly escaped through bush paths linking Eruku to neighbouring communities, leaving residents in fear and confusion.
