Just In: Court Convicts Kanu Of Terrorism Charges
A Federal High Court in Abuja has convicted the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu of terrorism charges brought against him.
Justice James Omotosho, while delivering the judgement, determined the three issues raised in the trial in favour of the prosecution.
The judge held that the threats of violence issued by Kanu in his broadcasts created fear and anxiety in the minds of members of the public in the Southeast.
Justice Omotosho held that based on the evidence provided by the prosecution, the ingredients of terrorism were established in the exhibits against Kanu by his intention and conduct.
The judge noted that Kanu did not take the option to open his defence, adding that he “failed and deliberately refused to give any exculpatory evidence” on the charges brought against him.
The court is currently delivering judgement on the seven-count charges of terrorism brought against Kanu.
