I Can’t Get Over My Dad’s Assassination – Niniola
Singer Niniola has shared the traumatic experience of witnessing her father, retired Brigadier-General Simeon Apata, being assassinated in 1995.
In a recent interview with Jay On Air, Niniola revealed that the incident has left a lasting impact on her life, saying she can never fully get over it.
According to Niniola, she was in the house when her father was murdered by gunmen in Lagos, and as his favorite child, the trauma was intensified.
She described the memory as not good and mentioned that her young age at the time of the incident didn’t make it any easier to process.
“I was in the house when my dad was murdered. And I was his favourite child so you can imagine [the trauma]. Till today, I’m not over it. I can never get over it,” she said.
“I was very young when it happened. I don’t remember my exact age then but it wasn’t a good memory.”
This traumatic event has also affected her sister, Teni, another singer, who disclosed in 2023 that witnessing their father’s assassination at 2 left her traumatised.
