Ayra Starr Makes History, Becomes First African To Earn Latin Diamond Certification
Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has become the first African artist to receive a Latin Diamond rating.
Her worldwide duet with Rvssian and Rauw Alejandro, ‘Santa’, was certified Latin Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after exceeding 35 million streams.
She and Rema, whose song ‘Bubalu’ is awarded Platinum, are the only African musicians with RIAA Latin certifications.
‘Santa’ is also certified multiple Platinum in Spain and Mexico. It topped the Spanish chart and peaked at No. 2 in Colombia, Ecuador, and Central America.
