Osun: Omoworare Condemns Crisis Over Court Of Appeal Judgement

-Calls For Calm

-Urges Gov Ademola Adeleke To Toe Path Of Justice, Peace
I strongly condemn, in totality and in its entirety, the crisis and rising tension in Osun State following the Court of Appeal judgment reinstating the sacked APC local government chairmen, which has been met with resistance from the Osun State Government and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The breakdown of law and order resulting from this situation is unacceptable and must not be allowed to fester.
It is deeply saddening that this crisis has led to the loss of lives, particularly that of Hon. Remi Abass, the Irewole Local Government Chairman among others.
My heartfelt condolences go to the families and all those who have suffered irreparable loss due to the violence. This is a moment of grief, and I pray for strength and comfort for the bereaved families.
I call on all parties involved to exercise restraint and allow the rule of law to prevail. The security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, must act swiftly to ensure that this crisis is nipped in the bud before it escalates further. Osun State cannot afford to be plunged into chaos due to political differences.
Furthermore, I urge the Osun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ademola Jackson Adeleke, to respect the judgment of the Court of Appeal and allow the peaceful reinstatement of the sacked APC local government chairmen, as directed by the court. The principle of democracy and the rule of law demand that all legal pronouncements be obeyed, regardless of political affiliations.
A recent precedent exists in Edo State, where the APC-led government under Governor Monday Okpebholo adhered to the court ruling that reinstated sacked PDP local government chairmen. If the APC-led government in Edo could obey a court ruling that favored the opposition, there is no justifiable reason for the PDP-led government in Osun to do otherwise. Upholding the law must transcend political considerations for the sake of peace, stability, and democratic growth.
I, therefore, urge Governor Ademola Adeleke to toe the path of peace, respect the rule of law, and allow due process to prevail. Leadership is about making difficult but necessary decisions that serve the greater good, and in this instance, obedience to the court order is the only path that guarantees peace, development, and the sustenance of democracy in Osun State. Posterity will judge the actions taken at this crucial moment.
Finally, I call on all Osun citizens to remain calm and law-abiding. Violence and political strife will only hinder the progress of our dear state. Let us work together for the peace, unity, and development of Osun State.
Signed
Senator Babajide Omoworare
