Sowore, Lawyers Accompany Corps Member Who Accused Tinubu In Viral Video To LGI
Human rights activist and 2023 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore has thrown his weight behind Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member facing criticism for a viral video in which she condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a video posted on X on Monday, Sowore confirmed that he had met with Uguamaye in Lagos and would accompany her to the NYSC Local Government Inspector’s office alongside a legal team.
“The journey with youth Corper, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, has commenced in Lagos. She is scheduled to appear before the LGI (Local Government Inspector) today and we will escort her to their offices. We are all en route with attorneys,” he wrote.
However, in another post on X, Sowore said he arrived the Local Government with some lawyers and the corps member but alleged that the NYSC officials in the LG have absconded.
He wrote, “We arrived Eti-Osa LGI offices of the@officialnyscngwith youth Corper, Ushie Rita uguamaye in Lagos. She is was scheduled to appear before the LGI today and we escorted her to their offices with attorneys but LGI official had absconded failing to show up throughout our stay.”
Uguamaye gained attention after sharing a TikTok video lamenting Nigeria’s economic struggles and openly criticising Tinubu’s leadership.
She later claimed she had received threats following her remarks, sparking widespread debate on free speech and political dissent.
She also shared a screenshot of an NYSC invitation summoning her to the Eti Osa 3 LGI office on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
Sowore’s involvement has drawn further attention to the case, raising concerns over potential repercussions from the NYSC or other authorities.
As of now, the NYSC has not issued an official statement on the matter.
