Osun Residents Protest Over Insecurity, Ask Tinubu, Adeleke To Find Solution

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Osun State on Wednesday protested against insecurity in the country.

The workers, who were joined by civil society organisations and residents, converged under the Olaiya bridge to press home their demands, with security personnel ensuring that there was no breakdown of law and order.

Speaking with newsmen, the chairman of Osun Civil Society Coalition, Dr Waheed Lawal, said the insecurity in the country has become too pronounced, calling on the federal government to find a lasting solution to it.

Dr Lawal also frowned at the continued closure of the operation base of Osun Amotekun, noting that stopping the state security agency from operating was not the solution to what led to its closure.

He said, “We are protesting against insecurity. The meeting of Mr President with the labour leaders cannot avert that one because their meeting cannot solve the bandits from kidnapping our people.

“Nigerians deserved the best. Security of lives and property is a constitutional matter. It is our law that says the government must provide security for the lives and property of the citizens. If you can’t secure the people, how are you going to provide welfare for them?

“We just have to tell the president that enough is enough. The closure of the operational office for Amotekun in Osun State is uncalled for. If there is any bad egg within Amotekun, remove them or prosecute anyone who commits an offence.

“But closing that office is not the solution to that problem. Today, we cannot sleep with our eyes closed in Osun. That is not how it was before. Osun is one of the most secure states in Nigeria, and we don’t want unnecessary incursion into our state.”

Dr Lawal also urged the state governor, Ademola Adeleke to empower local security networks so as to safeguard the people of the state.

“The governor of Osun should make sure he reinforces the local security networks so that they can monitor all our borders and detect any strange movement on time. The governor is the Chief Security Officer of the state and he should work for Osun,” he added.
