Group Condemns Canadian Embassy’s Visa Denial To CDS Christopher Musa

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the South West zone of Nigeria has strongly condemned the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria for denying a visa to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and his team.

The team was scheduled to attend a high-profile security summit in Canada, and this denial has been described as an outrageous and disrespectful act against Nigeria’s global image.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Comrade Oyeniyi Mojeed Oladimeji expressed deep displeasure over what he termed an unruly act by the Canadian diplomatic mission.
He emphasized that such actions undermine the integrity of Nigeria and disregard the significant role of General Christopher Musa in fostering national and international security collaborations.
The Canadian Embassy in Nigeria must tender an unreserved apology for this unnecessary and disrespectful showoff, Comrade Oladimeji stated.
“Denying a high-ranking security officer, who is on a pivotal national duty, access to an international summit is not only a slight on his person but also an affront to Nigeria as a sovereign nation.”
The coalition further called on the Canadian government to review its diplomatic policies and ensure that such instances of perceived disrespect do not recur.
It urged the Nigerian government to engage with Canadian authorities on this matter to prevent future occurrences that could strain bilateral relations.
The Civil Society Organizations in the South West zone of Nigeria reaffirm their commitment to promoting respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty and diplomatic dignity.
They also urge the Canadian authorities to exercise caution and consideration in dealing with top government functioneries, especially those engaged in critical national security assignments.
The Coalition which comprises over 40 organisations demand explanation from the Canadian embassy over the ugly situation and insinuation of sponsorship of bandit which could have necessitated the action of the embassy .
