Footballer Slumps, Dies While Playing Football In Osun

-He Died Same Day He Clocked 29 Year Old- Relative

A footballer, identified as Clement Adeyemi Adewale Oluyide, 29, from Ilesa West Football Team has tragically lost his life during a football match.

It was gathered that the tragedy occured during the Adeleke Memorial Cup finals held at Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo on Thursday, January 16, 2025.

Clement Adewale Adeyemi Oluyide clocked 29 year old same day the unfortunate incident happened.

One of his relatives who spoke to our Correspondent under the condition of anonymity said, the late footballer was celebrated early yesterday only to slump and died.

He said: “Clement Adewale Adeyemi Oluyide is my brother. The 29 year old guy clocked 29 yesterday.

He was celebrated early yesterday only to slump and died on Ataoja School of Science football pitch same day.

Confirming the development, the Osun State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola in a statement on Thursday night disclosed that Adewale collapsed on the pitch during the match and was immediately rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

The statement said, “Today, 16/01/2025, while the Adeleke Memorial Cup Final match was going on at Ataoja School of Science, one Adeyemi Adewale, ‘M’, 29 years, a player from Ilesa West Football Team, slumped on the pitch.

“He was rushed to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by the doctor.

“Meanwhile, his corpse has been deposited at the hospital morgue.”

CityMirrorNews reports that the tournament is being sponsored by Hon Bamidele Salaam in memory of the first civilian governor, Alhaji Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke.

The elder Adeleke passed away in April, 2017.

The football match was between Heritage Football Club, Ilesa West local government and Ejigbo local government.
