2026: Group Urges APC To Zone Guber Ticket To Osun West
Against the backdrop of the 2026 governorship poll in Osun, a sociopolitical group, The Osun West Majiyagbe Ambassadors (TOWMA), on Wednesday urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone its gubernatorial ticket to Osun West Senatorial District.
The group also demanded justice for the reinstated chairman of Irewole Local Government Area of Osun, Mr Remi Abass, who was murdered on February 18 by suspected hoodlums during the struggle for the control of councils in the state among supporters of the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Addressing members of TOWMA during a rally at the Post Office area of Iwo community, the coordinator of the group, Azeez Olalekan Ismail, said, “We remain steadfast in our pursuit of justice and political fairness, despite attempts to silence our agitation.
Describing Abass’ murder as part of an alleged scheme to weaken the West’s aspiration for the APC governorship ticket, the group vowed that his struggle for equity must not be in vain.
Ismail stated, “They want to destabilise us through the death of Honourable Abass and do not want the ticket to come from us, but we will not relent.”
“His life was dedicated to advocating for fairness, and in honour of his legacy, we urge APC stakeholders not to let his death be in vain. His unwavering commitment must inspire meaningful action by ensuring that the APC gubernatorial candidate emerges from Osun West, “he posited.
Ismail also implored President Bola Tinubu, former interim national chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola, the party’s national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, as well as other key stakeholders, to consider their demands in the spirit of equity and justice.
He added, “Despite our district’s sincere commitment and unwavering loyalty to the progressives, the marginalisation of Osun West is an undeniable fact. We urge our leaders to confront it with urgency and resolve.”
While contending that zoning the 2026 governorship ticket to Osun West would not only address injustice, he expressed optimism that such a gesture would also strengthen the party’s chances of reclaiming the state from the PDP.
“Our members believe the political landscape in Osun State is ripe for transformation, and an APC candidate from Osun West offers the brightest chance of winning the gubernatorial election, “Ismail remarked
He further recalled that Osun West delivered six out of its 10 local government areas to the APC during the 2022 governorship election, despite the party’s flagbearer emerging from Osun Central—a development which he described as a testament to the district’s loyalty.
