Thugs Attack Sowore At Lagos City Marathon
The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, was attacked on Saturday by suspected thugs at the Lagos City Marathon.
The activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters had joined the annual race when hoodlums allegedly descended on him, attempting to disrupt his participation.
Videos circulating online show Sowore engaging in a heated exchange with the attackers before security personnel intervened.
Confirming the incident, Sowore wrote, “I am safe and unharmed in Lagos. Yes, some rogue elements launched an attack on us after completing the Lagos Marathon today, claiming that we unlawfully occupied the ‘VVIP’ space post-event. They mobilized thugs to assault us.”
He also posted a video on Facebook with the caption, “How occupying a canopy after the Lagos Marathon 10k infuriated some rogue elements who assaulted our crew members and journalists leading to unprovoked attacks which led to the seized a camera of one of our journalist insisting they view and delete all the contents because it caught them live attacking our crew in Lagos.”
