Update: 40-Year-Old British-Indian Is Sole Survivor In Air India Plane Crash

40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British-Indian and resident of London, may be the sole survivor in the Air India plane crash that occurred earlier on Monday near Ahmedabad Airport.

We had first reported that at least 40 people died in the crash. Our second report on the incident said at least 200 people on board were killed.

But in the latest update, Ahmedabad said there was at least one survivor from the flight.

The British-Indian who had bruises on his chest, eyes and feet, explained his ordeal to Hindustan Times.

“Thirty seconds after take off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly.

“When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital,” he said.

The Air India plane which was bound for London crashed just seconds after take-off from Ahmedabad, killing most of the 242 people on board and several more on the ground.

The plane, Flight AI171, lost contact with air traffic control just moments after departure, with the tracking website Flightradar24 confirming its last signal was received at an altitude of 625 feet (190 metres).

The plane plunged into a densely populated residential compound used as accommodation for doctors, igniting a massive fireball and causing widespread destruction.
