Governor Adeleke Presents Cheques Worth #672,987,699.94 To Beneficiaries Of Group Life Assurance

In his welfaristic gesture, the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has presented Cheques amounting to #672,9987,699.94 to the families of insured workers under the Group Life Assurance Scheme (GLAS) and Personal Accident Insurance Scheme (PAIS), comprising of 151 workers who lost their lives in the course of carrying out their statutory duties, including those who got injured through accidents, to be able to fill in the gap created by the demise of their loved ones.

While presenting the cheques on behalf of the Governor at the event which took place at the Ministry of Finance, the state Commissioner for Finance, Honourable Adeola Olusola Ogungbile explained that the programme, which was designed to primarily cater for the ‘death in service benefits’ for the entire state workforce, was hitherto stopped by the previous administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, but re-introduced by Governor Adeleke to promote the welfare and wellbeing of the state public servants.

Speaking further at the emotion laden and appreciation soaked event, the Commissioner said that the scheme had been witnessing an uninterrupted progress under Governor Adeleke, noting that the step reflects his compassion for the beneficiaries who suddenly lost their loved ones in active service. He stressed that the Governor has been regularly paying premium to Valanis Insurance Group and Capital Express Assurance Limited to facilitate immediate payment of submitted and cleared claims.

The Commissioner, who emphasized that the State Government will not renege in ensuring the continuity of the scheme through regular funding as part of five (5) point agenda of Governor Adeleke’s administration, therefore appealed to the beneficiaries to ensure that the funds are judiciously utilized on procuring basic needs of the dependants of the deceased.

He then used the occasion to counsel them to intensify their unflinching support for Governor Adeleke and ensure that he achieves a resounding success in the 2026 gubernatorial election to secure his second term in office and to continue his good work for the state.

In his remarks, the representative of the Valanis Insurance Group, Mr Ezekiel Adisa, who spoke on behalf of the insurance companies eulogized Governor Adeleke for keeping faith with his desire to ensure that workers in the state and the entire citizenry live a worthy life.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Keulere from Iwo town appreciated Governor Adeleke and his entire team for prioritizing the development and welfare of the people of the state. He assured that they will work assiduously to ensure that the Governor is returned elected in the August 8, 2026 election.

Also present at the event were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Akeem Bello, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Finance, Mr. Kunle Fuoye as well as the Director, Administration and Supplies, Mr. Wole Ajewole. Others are the Director, Fiscal Policy Matters, Mr. Sadiq Akinkunmi and the representative of Capital Express Assurance Limited, Mr. Francis Abejide.

It will be recalled that Group Life Assurance Scheme was embraced by Osun State Government in September, 2013 as the second leg of Contributory Pension Scheme.
