The Osun Civil Societies Coalition (OCSC) has demanded the immediate suspension of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun Corps) in the state following a horrific attack in Akinlalu community.
The demand was made during an extended media engagement on Thursday by the Chairman of OCSC, Dr. Waheed Lawal.
Dr. Lawal condemned the gruesome attack on residents of Akinlalu in Ife North Local Government Area, allegedly perpetrated by operatives of the Amotekun Corps.
In his words, “The Osun Civil Societies Coalition strongly condemns the reckless, unlawful, and barbaric shooting of innocent residents of Akinlalu perpetrated by Amotekun operatives.”
He blamed the Directorate of State Security and the Osun State Police Command for failing to promptly contain the violence.
Dr. Lawal further outlined the demands of OCSC, which he said are in line with constitutional principles and human rights obligations.
“OCSC demands the immediate suspension of Amotekun operations in the state and the prosecution of all those involved in the killings, in accordance with Section 36(1) of the 1999 Constitution.
“We also demand the establishment of a Judicial Panel of Inquiry under the Tribunals of Inquiry Law, Cap 138, Laws of Osun State, 2002, and adequate compensation for the deceased families and victims of the attack in pursuance of Section 314 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (2015).
“In addition, we demand the public release of investigation findings within seven days to ensure transparency,” he added.
