Tension Boils Over: Four Nabbed In Violent Clash At Emir Sanusi’s Palace
The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four individuals in connection with the violent confrontation that erupted on Sunday at the Emir of Kano’s palace between supporters of the two rival monarchs-Emir Muhammad Sanusi II and Emir Aminu Ado Bayero.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Superintendent Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed the development on Tuesday, stating that the suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Tensions flared at Kofar Kudu, the section of the palace occupied by Emir Sanusi II, when loyalists of both monarchs clashed.
Emir Bayero currently resides at the Nassarawa mini palace. The two are close cousins and have both laid claim to the prestigious Kano Emirate throne, a matter currently awaiting final determination at the Supreme Court.
The altercation has drawn concern from civil society organisations, which have urged security agencies to investigate the root causes of the conflict and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
In response, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ibrahim Bakori, has constituted a special investigative panel to probe the incident.
“We have arrested four suspects, and they are now in our custody. The investigation is ongoing,” SP Kiyawa confirmed.
The police say further updates will be provided as the inquiry progresses
