Osun NULGE Denies Allegations of Attempt to Sell Union Property
The Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has dismissed a report alleging that its president, Comrade Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, secretly attempted to sell off the union’s property during the ongoing strike.
The report, credited to one Akin with the headline “Osun NULGE Plunged Into Another Deep Crisis As Secret Attempts To Utilize Time Of Strike To Sell Off Union’s Property For N240M By Dr Ogungbangbe Bursted”, was described by the union as “false, mischievous, and aimed at blackmailing” its leadership.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Owoeye David Olalekan, the union said at no time did Ogungbangbe or members of his executive contemplate or initiate plans to sell the property of the union.
“The allegations are not only false but also a calculated attempt to mislead the public and incite disaffection within the union,” the statement read.
NULGE maintained that the publication was orchestrated to create disunity among members, stressing that the leadership remains focused on resisting alleged attempts by the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) to divert Osun Local Government allocations to sacked chairmen.
The union further noted that the struggle it is engaged in is “legitimate, constitutional, and in the best interest of workers and grassroots governance in Osun State.”
It added that the author of the report would be invited to provide evidence to back his claims or risk legal action.
“We view this reckless publication as an attempt to distract the union from its ongoing struggle to safeguard the rights and welfare of local government workers. Comrade Ogungbangbe remains focused, transparent, and committed to the mandate freely given to him by members,” the statement continued.
NULGE urged its members and the public to disregard the report, insisting that the union under Ogungbangbe’s leadership “remains united and unwavering in the pursuit of workers’ welfare.”
