Dabiri-Erewa Slams ‘Social Crusader’ Over Misplaced Accusations Against NIDCOM, NAPTIP

Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has fired back at what she described as a misinformed and potentially malicious attack by a self-acclaimed social crusader, questioning their ignorance of the existence of Nigeria’s anti-human trafficking agency, NAPTIP.

Taking to her verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Dabiri-Erewa expressed disbelief that someone claiming to advocate for human rights could publicly question NIDCOM’s handling of a trafficking-related case without acknowledging the role of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

“How can a so-called social crusader not know there is an agency called NAPTIP?” Dabiri-Erewa asked in a scathing tweet.

“If there is no ulterior motive you will give the head of another agency who has actually selflessly ensured she did all she could to save souls, a deadline??”

She further described the accusations as an insult to ongoing institutional efforts against human trafficking, calling it “a clear case of human tracking with an agency responsible for trafficking in existence,” before rhetorically adding, “No be juju be that?”

The statement appears to be in response to public criticisms aimed at NIDCOM over its perceived handling of a particular trafficking situation.

Though the accuser wasn’t explicitly named, Dabiri-Erewa’s frustration was palpable, especially as she defended the leadership of a sister agency whose dedication to rescuing trafficking victims she praised.

Her post was warmly received by some followers, including Pastor Okezie J. Atañi, who tweeted in support: “Thank you Ma’am Abike Dabiri-Erewa for this prompt response.”
