The United States Mission in Nigeria has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu in Kaduna State, describing the incident as “senseless” and calling for justice.
In a statement released via its official X handle, @USinNigeria, the U.S. Mission expressed deep distress over the killing, offering condolences to the slain priest’s family, congregation, and the wider community.
“We strongly condemn this horrific act of violence,” the statement read.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, congregation, and community of Father Okechukwu, who have suffered an immeasurable loss. Our thoughts are with them during this time of profound grief,” it added.
The U.S. also urged Nigerian authorities to ensure that those responsible for the attack are swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.
“We call on the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement added.
Father Okechukwu’s murder is the latest in a series of violent attacks targeting clergy and communities in parts of northern Nigeria.
His killing has sparked outrage, with religious leaders and civil society groups calling for increased security and urgent government action to curb the rising wave of violence.
