Tinubu Champions Regional Prosperity At Mahama’s Inauguration
President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has lauded Ghana’s democratic progress during the swearing-in ceremony of President John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025.
Speaking as a special guest of honour, Tinubu commended the peaceful transition of power and the resilience of Ghanaian democracy, describing the event as a proud moment for the African continent.
Tinubu, addressing a gathering of dignitaries, described the occasion as a testament to Ghana’s ability to sustain democratic governance.
“We celebrate African democracy today as Ghana and her beloved people mark the transition from one democratic government to another,” he stated.
He emphasised that Ghana’s progress was evidence of Africa’s capability to achieve democratic and economic milestones.
The Nigerian leader highlighted the importance of unity among African nations, urging critics of the continent to recognise the strides made by countries like Ghana and Nigeria.
“We have nothing to prove to anyone except ourselves. We have found the critical path to our success. We shall lift our nations out of poverty and build a resilient economy at our own pace,” Tinubu declared.

In his remarks, Tinubu praised Ghana’s symbolic “Black Star” as a beacon of hope, unity, and shared history.
He invoked the legacy of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, as a source of inspiration for the nation and the continent.
The Nigerian President also expressed his confidence in the leadership of President Mahama, describing him as a man of vision and patriotism.
“Your new president loves his nation and its people to the core. He believes that your nation has a mission and intends for you all to fulfil it,” Tinubu said.
He pledged Nigeria’s unwavering support for Ghana, reaffirming the strong bond between the two countries.
“President Mahama and I share a deep friendship. My dear brother, I am here to work with you. You know you can count on Nigeria’s support and goodwill whenever needed,” Tinubu added.
Tinubu called for renewed efforts in addressing pressing challenges such as poverty, youth unemployment, and instability across the region.
He expressed optimism that Mahama’s administration would foster sub-regional integration and greater shared prosperity.
