Remove Sowore’s Tweet Against The President Or Face Consequences, DSS Tells X Corporation
The Department of State Security (DSS) has given X Corporation in Texas, United States, 24 hours to remove a tweet credited to political activist Omoyele Sowore, allegedly disparaging and ridiculing President Bola Tinubu.
In a letter to the Chairman and CEO of X, the DSS referenced the tweet by Omoyele Sowore on his official X handle page, @YeleSowore, on 25th August, 2025, where he wrote, “This criminal @officialABAT actually went to Brazil to state that there is NO MORE corruption under his regime in Nigeria. What audacity to lie shamelessly!”
Sowore was reacting to President Tinubu’s statements during his recent state visit to Brazil on the invitation of President Ignacio Lula Da Silva.
“The tweet under reference is against the transparency on X, and the government has frowned at it and found it extremely dangerous, false, privacy violation behavior that manipulate and negatively impacts on the person of the President and the Country, ” the DSS said.
The security agency accused Sowore of deploying the tweet to discredit and disparage the president among the comity of nations, damage the image of Nigeria and cause a serious threat to national security, an “offence punishable in Section 51 of the Criminal Code Act Cap.77 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria”.
The DSS noted that the law not only imposes criminal liability on Sowore but also on X for spreading the misleading information, calling on the company to “immediately TAKE DOWN the tweet and its attendant re-tweets” or face consequences if it fails to take necessary action.
