Ibadan Stampede: Fans Of Oriyomi Hamzat In US, Canada Issue Statement

The Oriyomi Hamzat Fans in US and Canada have issued a statement condoling with the families of the victims of the Ibadan stampede that occurred on December 18th, 2024.

The group also expressed gratitude to the general public for their love and prayers for Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, who has been detained in connection with the incident.

The fans acknowledged the need for due diligence in investigating the incident but pleaded with the authorities to release Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat and others in detention, citing their good intentions and humanitarian work.

The group noted that Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat has a history of philanthropy, particularly through his annual Agidigbo children’s carnival.

The Oriyomi Hamzat Fans in US and Canada Chapter emphasized the importance of safety consciousness and orderliness in public events, particularly when distributing free gifts.

The group also called on policymakers to implement policies that would prevent similar incidents in the future.

Nigerian actor, Dr. Bose Olubo-Adegeye, a member of the Oriyomi Hamzat Fans in US and Canada, urged the authorities to ensure adequate security measures are in place to prevent such incidents, citing recent stampedes in Abuja and Anambra.

The group’s coordinators, Mrs. Toyosi Oladipo and Mrs. Rashidat Aina, stated, “We understand the need for justice, but we also believe that mercy and compassion should be considered. We plead with the authorities to release Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat and others in detention, allowing them to continue their humanitarian work.”
