‘I Won’t Delete My Post On Tinubu’ – Sowore Doubles Down
-Confirms Receiving DSS Demands From X
Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has responded to the Department of State Services (DSS) urging social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to suspend his verified account, @YeleSowore, over a post critical of President Bola Tinubu.
Sowore disclosed on Sunday that X officially contacted him about the DSS letter, which alleged that his August 25 post—mocking President Tinubu’s claim in Brazil that corruption no longer existed in Nigeria—was “false, offensive, and a threat to national security.”
In his post, Sowore stated that he would not delete the disparaging tweet against the president.
“This morning, X (formerly Twitter) officially contacted me about the despicable threat letter they received from the lawless DSS over my Tweet on Tinubu. One option I will NOT be taking is deleting that Tweet. Thank you, @X,” Sowore said.
According to him, X confirmed it had received the request from Nigerian authorities but said it had not acted on the reported content. The company reiterated that it informs users of such requests in line with its transparency policy.
The DSS had given the platform 24 hours to take down Sowore’s post, citing provisions of the Criminal Code Act, the Cybercrimes Act 2025, and the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act 2022.
