Illegal Clinic Closed Down After Patient Dies From Hernia Operation

Dada’s Clinic and Maternity Ltd, an unregistered clinic operating in Kapwa, Gaube Community, Kuje Area Council of the FCT, has been shut down by the Private Health Establishments Registration and Monitoring Committee (PHERMC).
The clinic, located along the main road leading to the community, was found to be operating without registration and conducting medical procedures in a rented apartment unfit for healthcare services.
The clinic’s operator, Mr. Sabiu, was detained and handed over to the police for further investigation.
The team that shut down the clinic was led by the Director of Medical and Diagnostics Department, acting on the directives of the Mandate Secretary, Health and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe.
The visit to the clinic followed allegations of illegal operations, including conducting medical procedures in unsanitary conditions.
Sadly, a community elder had passed away after undergoing a hernia operation at the facility.
Multiple reports also emerged of patients who barely survived procedures and required emergency medical care elsewhere.
Upon investigation, the clinic was found to be in a dilapidated and unsanitary condition, lacking basic amenities such as windows, doors, and toilets.
The structure had four rooms and a general area, including an unfinished extension in unacceptable sanitary condition.
Three patients were on admission at the time of the visit by PHERMC and were referred to Kuje General Hospital for proper medical care.
Reacting to the development, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike declared zero tolerance for illegal health facilities in the FCT, emphasizing the importance of facility accreditation and regulated healthcare services.
The minister vowed that all unregistered health facilities will be sealed henceforth to protect residents from unsafe medical practices.
