Bishop Kukah Backs Newly Sworn-in Defence Minister Christopher Musa

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Reverend Matthew Kukah, has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s newly sworn-in minister of defence, Christopher Musa, saying the nation’s security sector is now “in very good hands.”

Kukah spoke on Thursday during an interview with State House correspondents after the inauguration ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Musa was sworn in as defence minister at the State House after his confirmation by the Senate.

In his address, Kukah, who noted that the Sultan of Sokoto was aware of his presence at the event, highlighted the personal and regional ties both he and the Sultan share with the new minister, describing the moment as symbolic.

He said the Sultan had sent his greetings and goodwill to Musa.

Addressing his expectations for the new minister of defence, Kukah stressed that Nigerians already understand the nation’s challenges and that the urgent task ahead is restoring peace.

“Everybody knows what the problem is. We just need the restoration of normalcy in this country by any means possible. And I think that this job is in very good hands,” he said.

“It seems very clear that the president wants to reposition issues of security, and I think the situation is in very good hands.”
