We’ll Resume Work On Monday–Osun LG Workers
–Accuse NULGE Leaders Of Sellout
Some workers of Osun Local Government Areas have declared readiness to ignore the directive of the leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees and resume work on Monday, October 6, 2025.
The council staff, under the umbrella of ‘Association of Concerned Local Government Workers of Osun State’, accused the executive members of NULGE led by Nathaniel Ogungbangbe of sellout, claiming that “Ogungbangbe has been using us (Osun LG workers) to make money. You journalists should do your findings, you will discover the assets he has gotten since this needless strike began.”
Addressing a press conference at the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Osogbo on Thursday, the Coordinator of the concerned workers, Adebayo Adekunle, argued that Ogungbangbe unilaterally called the strike which has collapsed local administration in the state, adding that the industrial action was “useless”.
He stated that the concerned workers would be working with the reinstated chairmen under the major opposition All Progressives Congress in the state, calling on other workers to resume work on Monday.
According to him, there would be staff audit upon resumption and that workers who failed to show up at work are at risk of losing their employments. Adekunle asked the workers to come to work with their credentials and letters of appointments and promotions for the staff audit.
“Those who want to pay salaries will have to know those working with them. So, we are using this medium to inform all workers to resume next week Monday or lose their jobs.”
“It is almost seven (7) months that this noble concerned group granted a press
briefing here, to make our position known in respect of needless strike of Osun Local called by Ogungbangbe led by NULGE.
Today we are in joyous mood that local government autonomy is finally in operation here in Osun State,” he said, explaining that the APC reinstated council bosses would be spearheading local government autonomy in the country by paying salaries to council workers and others affected at the local government areas.
Adekunle said many workers have been battling all sorts of ailments because they have been idle at home, insisting that “it is uncivilized for a union leader to resolve unilaterally to call a strike which has lasted for over seven (7) months, we say enough is enough. The excuse of insecurity is no longer tenable, no insecurity anywhere. We are the landlords of local government secretariats, it is unheard that the landlords quit their property for all kind of pests and animals to occupy.”
Justifying their readiness to resume duties, the coordinator noted, “For the fact that legal actions are ongoing, does not mean we should abscond from our primary assignment in which we are paying for. Does it mean that when election Tribunal is ongoing, be it at Federal or State level, the civil servants should down tools? No, we do not belong to any political parties; by so doing, parties legitimacy tussle shout not deter us from going to our offices.”
He added, “What is happening right here in Osun is misnomer in the history of NULGE as a body, this is tantamount to wickedness, insensitivities, cowardice on the part of Ogungbangbe’s leadership, for how long can he sustain this unwarranted strike? People are fed up and we are using this medium to tell him that he is sitting on the keg of gunpowder which shall explode any moment from now, it is unfortunate that our people are retiring embarrassingly, many are on sick bed hospitalised, our deductions had been hijacked by political class to settle NULGE for loyalty, we say enough as enough.”
“To avoid degradation and possible job loss, concerned local government staff hereby calls on all patriotic and law abiding local government workers to resume back to work without delay and information at our disposal is that staff auditing has been slated for next week to ascertain the actual number of staff in the office. In addition, all staff are to report at their mother council with their first appointment letter, confirmation letter and last promotion letter, for easier and proper identification of bonafide staff.
“Sequel to the overleaf and above, we want to use this medium to assure our members that we are apolitical and any attempt for the lawfully recognized local government elected executives to derail on their promises, you are assured of our reactionary action against any insincerity of any type. Gentlemen and compatriots, our stand is very clear which is the interest of the local government staff unlike Ogungbangbe’s leadership which is parochial in thinking, self-centered, gluttonous and insensitive to the doctrine of NULGE and the general welfare of his members. Therefore, we call on all security apparatus to be at alert because any violence directed at our members will be met with serious reprisal that may have a serious cancerous implications, due to the fact that, we have exhausted our patience as human beings.
“Lastly, 22′ of October, is our next appearance at the National Industrial Court(NIC) and we are assuring you that Ogungbangbe’s impunity with regard to 4th of March kangaroo election will be legally looked into and judgement will be delivered as expected,” he said.
