APC Bleeds In Nasarawa As Top Leaders, Loyalists Defect To PDP

In a dramatic political twist ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has recorded yet another major victory as top members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including a former local government chairman and hundreds of loyalists, defected to the PDP in Keffi Local Government Area.

The former APC Chairman in Keffi LGA, Hon. Mohammed Maigoro, led the wave of defections during the PDP’s ongoing thank-you tour to local government areas, held on Friday.

Receiving the defectors at the Kofa Hausa PDP Secretariat in Keffi, the PDP State Chairman, Hon. Adamu Bako Ninga, described the event as a significant turning point in the political landscape of the state.

“This mass movement to the PDP is proof that the ruling party has failed the people,” Ninga declared. “With every passing day, Nigerians — especially in Nasarawa — are waking up to the reality that only the PDP can restore good governance, accountability, and development.”

Ninga assured the new members of full inclusion and equal opportunities within the PDP, emphasizing that the umbrella is large enough to accommodate all who seek genuine democratic leadership.

In his address, Hon. Mohammed Maigoro expressed deep disappointment with the APC, stating that his decision to leave the party was due to broken promises, lack of internal democracy, and poor leadership.

“We can no longer follow a party that has lost direction,” Maigoro said. “The APC has not only betrayed its supporters but has also failed to address the pressing needs of the people. The PDP offers a better alternative, and that is why we are here today.”

Adding his voice to the development, Elder Suleiman Nasidi, Chairman of the PDP Elders Forum and a critical stakeholder of the party in Keffi, welcomed the defectors, saying their decision was a bold and patriotic move.

“We are glad to receive our brothers and sisters who have returned to the PDP family,” Elder Nasidi stated. “This is a testament that the people are fed up with the failed leadership of the APC. Together, we will build a stronger, more united, and inclusive party that will truly represent the will of the people.”

The defectors, visibly elated and adorned in PDP colours, marched through the streets of Keffi chanting: “PDP! Power to the People!” while pledging full commitment to the party’s growth and electoral success.

Other party stakeholders and youth leaders present at the occasion also described the defection as a game-changer, adding that the PDP is steadily regaining its dominance across the state.
